Legacies

After using and refining the mechanics and missions over a number of events, we are very excited to release Legacies, an unofficial skirmish campaign for Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000!

title

Legacies builds on our Recon Squad rules for fast-playing, tactical 40k skirmishing. Players choose a particular specialty for their squad and work toward a relevant personal objective over the course of four thematic missions. They then all meet in the Cataclysm, a climactic team battle wrapping up the campaign.

Recon Squad

We’re proud to officially release our unofficial skirmish variant for Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000: Recon Squad!

recon-squad-600

Recon Squad is a simple ruleset for fast, very tactical games using all the standard 40k mechanics and armies but with individual models fighting it out as solitary heroes in elaborate battlefields. A lengthy discussion on the design considerations is up on tjkopena’s blog, and the full rules are a short PDF available on the website.

Beta Station!

After a long, long development process, Rocketship Games is happy to announce a new boardgame release:

Beta Station

Beta Station is a casual sci-fi exploration dungeon crawl shoot-em-up by Daryl Falco and Joe Kopena.  Two to five players take turns constructing a derelict space station and then exploring to find the treasures therein while fighting off monsters and the other players.  It features a novel map construction mechanic that introduces an element of strategy to exploration usually lost in the “flip-a-tile” mechanic used by most dungeon crawl games.

The Beta Station prototype is now available as a freely downloadable print & play game; follow the link to build your own!

Beta Station will always be available as a free print & play game, but we are pursuing production options and a possible Kickstarter for later this year to publish a more polished edition.  Contact us if you would be interested in supporting that!

Gold Leader at One Year

goldleader-iconAccording to our Google Analytics tracking, almost exactly thirteen months after launch, Gold Leader has had just under 250,000 “unique” players. An additional ~20,000 launched the game but did not actually play at all. The game has actually been played just over 414,000 times, which is incredible! Less than 12,000 players have actually beat the entire game though, a stunning indictment of the previous conception around here of what constitutes a “hard” game, even keeping in mind that the vast vast majority don’t complete due to lack of interest. Even now, buried deep in the charts on every site,  Gold Leader is still bringing in a steady ~3000 unique views a month, almost overwhelmingly from China, with a fair amount from Romania as well.  Give it a try!

Two weeks after launch, Gold Leader has been played 76,000 times by 51,000 “unique” players!  Some other stats:

  • 6,500- have passed the first objective, the Sensor Grid.
  • 4,400- have overcome the Interceptors and Assault Command.
  • 3,700+ have destroyed the Minefield.
  • 3,200+ people have conquered the Command Group and beat the narrative game!
  • Practically no one has completed a perfect mission (no player deaths)…

Thanks to everybody out there that’s played so far, and to our sponsors at GameShed!  If you haven’t already, wake up and give it a shot—you’re our last hope, Gold Leader!

Gold Leader Up for Bidding!

Our newest game, Gold Leader, is up for bidding on FGL!  We encourage all sponsors and portals to check it out.  For the potential players out there, we hope it’ll be picked up and publicly released by sometime in November.

Gold Leader is a traditional pixel art space shoot ’em up, kept lean and simple for players looking to just dive in for a couple minutes now and then and blast things in their spaceship.  More details here!

Portals, contact us if you’re interested in testing and/or sponsoring Gold Leader!

RocketHaxe Initial Release & Demo Game!

RocketHaxeWhat’s essentially RocketHaxe version 1.0 has been released!  All of the up-to-date code is available in the Google Code project.  It’s completely free to use for commercial and other purposes under the MIT license.

A simple demo game whipped up in pretty short order is included in the distribution and live on the RocketHaxe page on this site.  The game is very simple in order to be decipherable, but there’s actually a pretty solid amount of game-producing features in the library already.  A bigger example to come when Gold Leader is released!

New Beginnings

As previous viewers can tell immediately, the Rocketship Games website and blog have undergone some serious changes.  Most of the old blog contents will eventually come back up in a new personal blog for tjkopena, though a good chunk was lost by our previous web host.  The boardgame reviews that were previously on the main site will also move there or elsewhere.

Beyond that, there are some new and exciting items on the main pages.  Long story short, we have some exciting new stuff coming out—details soon!
