2008/10/10: Lunchbreak 250
Making their way back to the front lines on Lechten IX to report in, Captain Angholan and a contingent of Kingbreakers stumbled across a small squad of Chaos Plague Marines escorting a raving traitor Dreadnought! Armed with a Lascannon, Missile Launcher, and sundry other wargear, the beast stomped onto the field maniacally. Eager to kill anything in sight, its rage was such that it was first spotted while taking potshots at its own hideous comrades!
Unaccustomed to such blood lust and wisely avoiding a wasteful frontal assault, Angholan and Tactical 1 moved to flank the monster and draw apart the machine and the Plague Marines while Tactical 2 turtled down to weather the onslaught. Their wishes were denied however when the Chaos forces refused to be split and continued to focus on Tactical 2. Its survival deemed especially critical to the Kingbreakers as it held their only viable missile launcher and hope for cracking the corrupted dreadnought, Tactical 2 finally decided success could come only from valor and leapt upon the oncoming Chaos warriors. Ill equipped for close combat, the Dreadnought switched its attentions to Angholan and Tactical 1, lumbering through the rubble toward them. Preferring fierce close combat to being picked apart by piercing las fire, Angholan and crew rushed toward the monstrosity, closing the last few yards at breakneck speed and assaulting the Dreadnought! Both sides fighting with all their might as blood and damage were dealt evenly, the battle raged on unceasingly, neither able to land a crippling attack...
Results
Session ended way too early to call anything decisive. Everybody was wrapped up in assaults that were going nowhere fast and not many guys were out of the mix yet.
Lessons
Never walk onto a battlefield, no matter how small the battle, without a couple options that can take down some armor...
Fire Support Dreadnoughts should probably try and stay out of close combats. Without CC weapons, they're not particularly more effective at it than a regular squad.
