Railroad Game
- ''"Yeah, that co-op was pretty cool, but it seemed like all the decisions were pretty obvious---we didn't really have any choices..."
A type of game in which the player(s) have few or no real choices. Classic examples of these are rail shooter video games, in which the players proceeded along a fixed path with few or no branchpoints, and simply fired at targets appearing on screen. Such games were very popular when online rendering was difficult, but 3D imaging could be done well offline and economically packed onto CDs, pre-rendering the track the user would take. This form is still used in some arcade games, particularly light gun games. Many board games also have this effect, when the rationale choices are so clear that the player isn't really making any decisions.
